Josep Borrell meets our Founder Andrea Bocelli and ABF top management: education crucial for youth empowerment

Florence, May 5, 2023 –  Josep Borrell Fontelles, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Vice-President of the European Commission, visited the headquarters of the Andrea Bocelli Foundation in Florence. The bilateral meeting with the Foundation's top management and Florence Mayor Dario Nardella focused on the importance of education as a tool for empowering young people across Europe.

“That the philanthropic entity that bears my name, that our large extended family, was one of the stops of the Vice-President of the European Commission’s trip to Florence today, is in and of itself a form of recognition in the face of which we can only – gratefully – reply that we will continue to do our utmost every day to deserve it. On behalf of myself and the entire ABF team, I would like to extend my deepest thanks to Josep Borrell for honoring us with his much-appreciated presence at our San Firenze headquarters, a hub of empowerment for the young citizens of Italy and Europe. We interpret his visit as a reflection of the happy, broad-spanning values we share, in a desire to act, with urgency, to provide the opportunities required to inspire and develop the potential of the younger generations. At the meeting, in addition to our Founder Andrea Bocelli and the Mayor Dario Nardella, ABF Chair Stefano Aversa and President Laura Biancalani were also present, with whom Borrell discussed the challenges and opportunities for young people in Europe and beyond and how non-profit organizations – in collaboration with other major entities – can generate impact and value through strategic projects. Furthermore, during the meeting they discussed in-depth ABF’s innovative educational programs focused on the discovery and enhancement of personal potential, such as the “ABF GlobaLab”, a strategic vocational project created by the Foundation to incentivize and guide the talents of the citizens of tomorrow. At the bilateral meeting, a young representative was invited to take part to share the most significant moments of the journey of discovering his talents and his experiential journey to the Holy Land, with which he concluded the project and during which he was able to come into contact with the theme of conflict together with the other participants.
