The grave humanitarian crisis in Haiti

Haiti is facing a complex humanitarian crisis.

Since the beginning of the year, 1,193 people have been killed – with 692 injured – by the gangs that control the country, which aided 3,700 prisoners in escaping after attacking 2 prisons in the capital, Port-au-Prince, on March 3.

Widespread violence, hunger, and dangerous sanitary conditions have led the United Nations to declare the need for international community intervention to prevent “Haiti from descending further into chaos.”

Since 2012, the Andrea Bocelli Foundation has been committed to advancing its mission of “empowering people and communities” every day, so that they may write new stories of opportunity and beauty, even in complex settings such as Haiti. The severe crisis the country is currently going through has not stopped the work of ABF in the field, including: 5 out of the 6 ABF - Fondation St Luc schools that accommodate children, offering them a safe place and access to quality education. Additionally, the ABF Water Truck project distributes clean drinking water to 400,000 people every day and the ABF Mobile Clinic project provides basic medical assistance to 200,000 people.

Today more than ever, we believe that our mission can be a spark of hope in the darkness for these people and a testament that ABF and many generous friends around the world continue to support the communities of Haiti.
