Dear Friends,
As we approach Christmas, the most cherished celebration in the Christian calendar, I want to share my heartfelt wishes for a joyful and peaceful holiday season with you and your families.
This time of year invites us to embrace the magic of kindness, the warmth of family, and the joy of being close to those we love. It’s a season that encourages giving and receiving affection, reminding us of the transformative spirit of the Holy Nativity and the light it brings to our lives.
In a world marked by conflict and suffering, celebrating life and love becomes even more essential. For me, and for all Christians, Christmas is not just a holiday—it’s a profound reflection on the beauty of faith, celebrated most meaningfully within the heart of family.
Family values are also at the core of the Andrea Bocelli Foundation (ABF), which was founded on the belief that strength lies in unity. While individuals can achieve much, together we can accomplish the extraordinary. If love is the flower, family is the fruit—a nurturing place where values are cultivated, harmony is practiced, and mutual respect grows.
In its thirteen years, ABF has grown immensely while remaining steadfast in its founding principles. Our mission is clear: to empower individuals and communities, providing them with the tools to unlock their potential and build a brighter future.
Education is central to this mission. It is the key to empowerment, and we are committed to ensuring equitable, quality education, especially in communities facing cultural, social, and economic challenges. We adopt a multidimensional approach to poverty, addressing not just material needs but also health, vulnerability, and marginalization.
Our efforts extend globally, but also close to home in Italy, where nearly 1.4 million children live in absolute poverty—a number that has tripled in the past decade. An additional 2.2 million face relative poverty. Here, as elsewhere, lack of access to education often leads to a life path marked by uncertainty and exclusion from opportunities for growth.
At ABF, we believe education is a transformative tool, unlocking the potential of individuals and communities alike. With your invaluable support, we are creating opportunities for young people to thrive, offering education that not only inspires but also equips them with the skills to shape their best possible future.
Education is the foundation of every democratic society. It lights the way for progress and leaves a legacy for future generations. The word educate comes from the Latin ex-ducere, meaning "to draw out"—to bring forth potential. Inspired by this, ABF has doubled its investments in educational and empowerment programs in 2024 compared to 2022, directing over sixty million euros toward impactful projects worldwide.
We are guided by an ancient Greek principle: “Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire.” At ABF, our mission is to light countless flames—sparks of hope to brighten even the darkest corners of the world.
This year has been especially bright. ABF has achieved significant milestones, including the reconstruction of schools in earthquake-affected areas of central Italy. This September, we inaugurated the "G. Natali" Primary School in Sforzacosta (Macerata), part of our ABF Educational Hub.
In Florence, we opened the "Maria Manetti Shrem" Educational Center at the Meyer Pediatric Hospital, bringing education and inspiration to young patients. Across all our initiatives, we’ve embraced innovative approaches that integrate art, music, and technology into learning. Today, 24 Art, Music, and Digital Labs are active in ABF-supported schools and hospitals.
Our belief in the transformative power of music also drives our “ABF Voices Of” initiative, a multi-year project to establish regional choirs in vulnerable areas worldwide. Singing is the most accessible musical expression, and for those growing up in hardship, it offers beauty, connection, and hope.
In 2024, we brought together choirs from Naples and Camerino, and we are planning a Global Gathering in 2025, uniting choirs from Haiti, the Holy Land, and other regions. These young voices, full of promise, are like arrows flying toward the future. Through music, they experience the profound truth that we are all variations on the same theme—unique, yet deeply connected.
Thank you for your continued trust and support of ABF. Together, we are creating a better world—one that celebrates humanity’s shared potential and beauty. As we gather in our shared home of hope and generosity, I wish you and your loved ones a blessed Christmas and a 2025 filled with peace, joy, and inspiration.
